As the ten-day long Golden Week holiday period draws to a close here in Japan, this seems a good time to seek a new sense of balance and moderation after the excesses of the holiday season. We have been heated up and now are cooling down. It is time to move on and cross the mountains that represent for me at least 13 weeks of hectic work during the spring term, with the 14th week given over to the concluding operations such as fitting in re-scheduled classes, setting exams and grading students.
