The 9 of Pentacles calls us to appreciate the wealth that is available to us and the 9 of Rods reminds us to take pride in what we have achieved and in the case of the Rider Waite deck, the knocks we have taken to get there. The Morgan Greer illustration (below) is more emphatic about the victory that has been achieved than the bruises it took to get there. I like Elliot Adams’ take on this arcana:
It is as if the internal struggles of the previous week have resolved themselves in a new outward-facing orientation which favours our work (9 Rods) and material condition (9 Pentacles).
