The Two of Pentacles is known as the Lord of Harmonious Change, expansive Jupiter submitting to the discipline of the earth sign, Capricorn. As such, the Two of Pentacles is the ideal arcana to draw on Christmas Day, when the Lord of all creation is first made manifest to the world in material form as a baby in a manger.
In traditional “tropical” western astrology we are in Capricorn right now, but this blog works with the Sidereal astrology which considers where the planets are in relation to the actual constellations. As such, the sun is currently still in expansive and fiery Sagittarius, as is the Moon and Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius.
The duality suggested by the Two of Pentacles is expressed in Sagittarius through the combined horse and human form of the centaur. Thus we have a very positive combination of energies in Sagittarius, with the Sun and Moon expressive of the conjunction of our outer and inner selves, and together, operating in expansive harmony with Jupiter this Christmas.
As I contemplate this arcana today, it’s fluid watery quality puts me in mind of the old carol, I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In, especially these verses,
And what was in those ships all three?
on Christmas day on Christmas day.
