Thursday 18th July 2019: 6 of Swords

The theme of journeying onward continues from yesterday with today’s 6 of Swords. Having commtted to leaving behind limiting beliefs and heading the open waters, it is time to travel over those waters, away from the choppy waves to the promising landscape on the opposite shore. The spirit is still oppressed by the past, but a glimpse of that promised land may now be had. Jeff of the Tatoo’d Spirit nicely suggests that we may need help in unloading those sharp swords from the boat, and then to patch up the holes in the boat.

It is worth remembering that we are currently in the fourth week after Trinity whose arcana is the (4) Emperor who presides over themes relating to “protection,” “strength,” “mercy,” “rule,” and “guidance.” Moreover, the Collect for the week connects the arcana of the 6 of Swords to the greater theme of passing through the waters of life in a spirit of hope:

O God, the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us thy mercy; that thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal: Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake our Lord. Amen.
