Today is the first day of a three-day Open Chess Tournament that I am playing in here in Hiroshima and it looks as if it is going to be a bit of a challenge! With the 5 of Pentacles we find ourselves in the midst of the “Winter of our Discontent” and a long way from the “glorious summer” of the Sun of York. One way of approaching this card that I appreciate is that of the Tattoo’d Spirit who links the process of conflict, loss and struggle that is written into this grim arcana with the (5) Hierophant, (12) Hanged Man and (19) Sun which offer the spiritual process of embracing and navigating our way out of the bleak struggle of spiritual winter.
