Friday 31st March 2023: King of Cups

The King of Cups (Neptune in Scorpio) is associated with emotional maturity, compassion, and creativity. This King has the antonine quality of being at home in his watery element, in which he delights beyond the capacity of ordinary mortals, and which reveals his true nature.

His delights

Were dolphin-like; they showed his back above

The element they lived in.

Antony and Cleopatra, II:5:20-22

Moon and Pluto Opposition

When the Moon is in sidereal Cancer opposite Pluto in Sagittarius, the gamesome quality of the King of Cups loses its lightness of touch (and may be compared to Leviathan who “takes his pastime” in deep waters) as Pluto intensifies emotional experiences and draws up sunken treasures from the depths of the sea. The opposition of the Moon and Pluto suggests a tug of war between emotional security offered by the Moon in Cancer and the need for deeper insights leading to change and transformation offered by Pluto in Sagittarius.

Venus, Uranus and Neptune

With Venus conjunct Uranus in Aries, there is an opening for sudden and unexpected changes in relationships and motions of the heart. This can bring a sense of excitement and newness, but also a need for balance and caution to avoid impulsive actions that could cause harm.

Therefore, treat spontaneous invitations to social with caution as we approach the weekend that concludes our journey through the fifth week of Lent. Bless those who would have you partake in their merry japes, and withdraw into the Hermit’s cell yet a little while; yours is an inward more than an outward journey this week.

Neptune, the ruler of the King of Cups, is in Pisces emphasizing the importance of intuition, spirituality, and artistic expression during this time. It also suggests a need for boundaries and discernment to avoid becoming overwhelmed by emotions or falling into delusion.

Bless those who would have you partake in their merry japes,
and withdraw into the Hermit’s cell yet a little while.

Sun and Moon Trine

Happily, the Sun is also in Pisces while the Moon is waxing in Cancer and trine the Sun, creating a natural flow of energy between emotions and intuition. It can assist in bringing some ease to the deeper and more erratic qualities released by Pluto and Uruanus, resolving dissonance and creating more coherence in your creative endeavors, spiritual pursuits, and emotional connections.

With those planetary placements, the King of Cups suggests a time for deeper insight, emotional growth and open-hearted creativity, but also a need for balance, caution, and discernment in matters of the heart and emotions.
